Among the 977 active dentists enumerated, 198(20.3%) worked in the Government, 744(76.2%) worked in the private sector and 35(3.6%) worked in others. In the 2000 Health Manpower Survey, 1 589 dentists covered and 1 152 active dentists were enumerated. 903 were male and 249 were female. Their sex ratio was 363 male active dentists enumerated per 100 female active dentists enumerated. Their mean age was 40.3 and median age was 38.0. Among the 1 152 active dentists enumerated, 220(19.1%) worked in the Government, 872(75.7%) worked in the private sector and 60(5.2%) worked in others. In the 2003 Health Manpower Survey, 1 671 dentists covered and 1 026 active dentists were enumerated. Six did not reveal their gender. Of the remaining 1 020 active dentists, 756 were male and 264 were female. Their sex ratio was 286 male active dentists enumerated per 100 female active dentists enumerated. Their mean age was 41.1 and median age was 40.0. Among the 1 026 active dentists enumerated, 172(16.8%) worked in the Government, 734(71.5%) worked in the private sector, 80(7.8%) worked in others and 40(3.9%) did not reveal their sector of work. In the 2004 Health Manpower Survey, 1 714 dentists covered and 916 active dentists were enumerated. 657 were male and 259 were female. Their sex ratio was 254 male active dentists enumerated per 100 female active dentists enumerated. Their mean age was 40.6 and median age was 40.0. Among the 916 active dentists enumerated, 176(19.2%) worked in the Government, 666(72.7%) worked in the private sector, 73(8.0%) worked in others and one(0.1%) did not reveal their sector of work.
